WHAT IS STITCH & GLUE?

In conventional construction, the side and bottom panels are glued and fastened to a longitudinal framing member (the "chine"), located at the seam where the side and bottom panels meet.

In Stitch & Glue construction, the chine and the fasteners are replaced by a continuous bead or fillet of epoxy putty which is used to glue the panels together. The inside and outside seams are also reinforced with several layers of fiberglass tape. To hold the panels together during construction, small holes are drilled along the edges, and wire ties are inserted and twisted together ("stitched or sewn"). The wire ties are later removed or ground flush. Structural components such as bulkheads are attached to the hull in similar manner.
